Solid sophomore was for all intents and purposes the debut of an artist who would go on to be one of the eighties most prolific pop stars, offering ample proof of a sexed-up dance-funk that would dominate the airwaves for years to come.
Prince Was Getting Better Every Moment February 19, 2010 CHEWIE 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Prince's first album was pretty much ignored. Critics didn't like it but they thought Prince had a great talent and would eventually become something. His second album isn't his best by far but is still interesting and has some great disco pop classics.
The best part about "Prince" are the classics. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was Prince's first hit and peaked at #11 on the Billboard 100. The best song on the album is "I Feel For You" though. A strangely heartwarming song about Prince being in 'love' with a girl. "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?" is one of the highlights about a girl leaving Prince and he doesn't understand why. The album closes with "It's Gonna Be Lonely" which works perfect to wrap up everything. Also, Prince played all of the instruments and sang all of the vocals.
The bad part about "Prince" is the middle of the album is all filler. They are all pretty forgetable but enjoyable while you play them.
In conclusion, go and get this if you're a Prince fan - don't let the creepy cover art keep you from buying it.
