To my ears, this is the "original" of this song, even though it was originally written by Prince. This is a very mellow, consistent version, which contrasts with the much more soulful, funky version Prince has recorded. I recommend both, and if you like this version, you should try Prince's--they're so completely different that it's pointless to say that one is better than the other. They're both worth listening to.

Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" is a heartbreaking, wrenching cover of... a Prince song(!) It's not the cliched "you dumped me,I'm sad,I'll ruin your life." There's melancholy,there are memories of happier times. O'Connor sings deeply of the loneliness. It's a powerful song you won't forget. Nothing compares 2 it.
